The Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in association with the International Centre, Goa (ICG) had organized an International Seminar on REVIVING THE SILK ROUTE: NEW INITIATIVES AND ENGAGEMENTS FOR THE 21st CENTURY at the International Centre, Goa on 9-10 February, 2007.
The seminar was attended by scholars from India, UK, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Holland, etc. The participants have deliberated on the following themes:
- The Silk Route Countries: The Past Inspiring the Future
- The Silk Route Countries: Sovereign States in Central Asia
- The Silk Route Countries: The Contemporary Economic Scenario
- Reviving the Silk Route: Promoting Cooperation in the Age of Globalization
The highlight of the seminar was the keynote Speech delivered by Mr. Colin Thubron, one of the world’s best known travel writers from England. Educated at Eton College, he has written extensively on China and Russia. His latest book “Shadow of the Silk Road” has been released recently. In New Year’s Honors List, he has been awarded the ‘Commander of British Empire (CBE)’ by the Queen of England. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature since 1969 and a regular contributor and reviewer for magazines and newspapers including ‘The Times’ and ‘The Spectator’.
